Specialised Services : Green Channel Certification & Self Certification

For obvious reasons, Defence Stores are required to conform to the most stringent Quality requirements, as specified by the User. Implementation of these Quality requirements is assured by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA). With the maturing of the Defence industrial eco-system in India, most manufacturers are capable of meeting internationally acceptable Quality standards. However, more often than not, manufacturers lack inhouse expertise in aligning these standards with those specified by the User in respect of inspection requirements, testing, acceptance trials, documentation etc.
The issue becomes more acute for newer entrants, start-ups, smaller enterprises etc of the Defence eco-system, wherein hand holding with respect to Quality issues may be required till their internal Quality Systems mature.

With the emphasis on “Make in India” & “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”, and enhanced focus on manufacturing, especially with respect to Innovations / Start-Ups, the government intends empowering Defence manufacturers to build Quality into their products. This, in turn, will necessitate a shift from dependence on DGQA for ensuring Quality of their products to Self Reliance. Towards this end, facilitation schemes like Green Channel Certification and Self Certification have been promulgated to enable firms to certify their own Quality. However, to qualify for award of certification status under these schemes, the firms have to demonstrate their Quality credentials in consonance with laid down MoD requirements.
